THE GIFT IN THE REBUKE

A parent has the responsibility to shape and mould their children from an early age.  A mother corrects her child while breastfeeding, giving gentle instructions.

A close friend and sister in Christ recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy and listening to her new profound journey in motherhood is just so beautiful. 

From the first moment, the feeding process is accompanied with teaching and instruction to ensure growth and development. This goes hand in hand with the intimate bond between a child and parent.

like newborn babies [you should] long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may be nurtured and grow in respect to salvation [its ultimate fulfillment], if in fact you have [already] tasted the goodness and gracious kindness of the Lord.

In this same manner, God, also Fathers us. Although we do not see Him with our natural sight.  The fact that we have breath in our lungs means His breath sustains us and keeps us going.

A parent who teaches and corrects their child's behaviour repeats this process over and over throughout their entire lives.  Later, as the child mature and becomes an adult, the roles slightly change and the intimate relationship blooms into a rich friendship.

As God's children we have to realize Who is the parent in the relationship.  While we remain prideful and stubborn, we are actually just like teenagers wanting things our way and pushing the boundaries as we struggle to figure out who we are.  That question gets answered when we allow ourselves to be taught and corrected by Our Father.
